Steel Siding Installation
Steel siding is a tough, long-lasting option for Iowa homes. Superstorm Roofing & Siding installs steel siding for homeowners across Des Moines, Central Iowa and North Central Iowa.
Benefits of Steel Siding
- Durable: steel won’t rot, warp or attract pests, and it won’t crack in cold weather the way vinyl can.
- Fire resistant: steel is noncombustible.
- Low maintenance: factory-applied finishes are designed to resist fading and chalking.
- Clean, modern look: available in traditional lap profiles as well as vertical and wood-grain styles.
Is Steel Siding Right for Your Home?
Steel is a good fit if you want a durable, low-maintenance exterior. Like any metal, it can dent from large hail, so we’ll help you choose the steel siding product that’s right for your home. Compare it with LP SmartSide, James Hardie and vinyl siding, or ask us during your free inspection.
Steel Siding: The Trade-Offs
- Dents: steel won’t crack, but large hail or a hard hit can leave a dent. Heavier-gauge steel resists dents better.
- Cost: steel usually costs more than vinyl.
- Scratches: a deep scratch through the finish should be touched up so the steel underneath doesn’t rust.
- Repairs and matching: replacing a single panel years later can be tricky if the color has weathered, so we’ll talk through how repairs would work before you choose.
Steel Siding and Iowa Weather
Steel stays stable through Iowa’s temperature swings. It doesn’t get brittle in sub-zero cold, and it doesn’t absorb moisture through freeze-thaw cycles. That makes it a solid choice for homes and outbuildings that take the brunt of wind and weather.
Caring for Steel Siding
- Rinse it with a garden hose once or twice a year to keep dirt and pollen from building up on the finish.
- Touch up any scratches that reach bare metal.
- Look it over after major hail so any damage can be documented early.
Steel Siding FAQ
Will steel siding rust?
Steel siding is coated to protect against rust. As long as the finish is intact, rust isn’t a concern. Scratches that reach bare metal should be touched up.
Can hail damage steel siding?
Large hail can dent steel. Dents are often cosmetic, but they may be covered by insurance after a storm. We’ll inspect and document any damage for free.
Is steel siding noisy in the rain?
Installed over a solid wall, steel siding is generally no louder than other types. It isn’t the same as a metal roof over an open space.
